Someone named Dilanna (spelling) showed this to her poetry class, full of "white" people.
A few of us felt uncomfortable. This is coming from the girl who, on the first day, said she has been through more than any of us because she is from the streets of Chicago.
Um, excuse me but I don't speak "Slave master" because I am white, and I don't own any fucking plantations. I don't get why it's okay for her to say that we judge her by her melanin and yet she turns around and says all us "white people" are in this classroom/plantation praising Mark Twain and talking about how terrible Maya Angelou is. This has never happened in any "plantation" I've been in.
Maybe I get offended when you put me in a group, too. Fucking slave owner, that all us crackers are. We just assume that someone who's darker skinned than us can't read a book. GEEZE.
I've taken African American history, and enjoyed it. It's not like I have no respect. I get it, I see where it's all coming from- but I could feel my blood boiling on Tuesday and I don't think I was the only one.
